June: A lil this, A lil that

Half of the year may be over, but we’re in the midst of my most favorite time of the year. Time when the weather is warmer, the sun is out, and most of importantly, ICE CREAM. Okay…ice cream may not be the most important thing, but it does make some days just that much better.

Since May was kinda a flop for me, I’m happy to report that I put a bit of fire under my butt and got it into gear forIMG_2242 June.

Make-up. I still haven’t been going hard on the makeup, but have brought back the Naked palette (colors Buck and Side Car) and a Mac lipstick (don’t remember lipstick). (The Naked pallette is a bit pricey, but believe me..it lasts for quite a bit of time. I purchased the palette at least 1 year ago and have yet to need to replace any of the colors.) I’ve also been applying a Sephora brand high shine lip gloss (thinking the color is 49 Metallic Copper.) This is more of a natural color, with a side of sexy. What can I say? A girl likes feeling good about herself.

Skin care. While I tried to continue a decent skin care routine, I must say I’ve been brutal to my face. I’ve been picking at my skin, resulting in some blemishes. However, I have found a fade cream by Ambi that does the job. Good times! ~ ~ I also picked up a new face soap from Lush, Fresh Farmacy (I think). In a nutshell, the jury is still out on this one. I think it may be a bit too drying for my skin. I’m not a huge fan of the tight feeling after use. However, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the tea tree facial cleanser by The Body Shop, and it became one of my facial favorites. (And..just purchased more of the tea tree facial cleanser.)

Fashion. The dresses are back out. The old navy flip flops are back in full effect. And sandals are also in order. To the rap song I wrote about 4 years ago..”tank tops, flip flops, goodness gracious, my it’s hot.”

Reading. Being able to chill outdoors while reading is one of the great aspects of warmer weather, and I’ve been taking advantage. In an effort to hone in on professional development, I ordered Be Your Own Brand: Achieve More of What You Want by Being More of Who You Are. The score: About a 2.5 out of 5. While the book may be helpful to some, I find it a bit repetitive and almost a duh. This could be because I have a marketing background or simply because I believe in being as much of my authentic self as possible, which is what theIMG_2243 book tends to focus on. On a positive note, I do find the hands-on portion of the book a bit more rewarding, and maybe even challenging as it guides through introspective exercises with the goal of defining one’s own personal brand. The disclaimer: I’m not the biggest fan of learning by reading. I’m much more of an auditory, visual and kinesthetic learner. I prefer shorter forms of reading for learning and fictional, long-form for pleasure.

Watching. I admit it. I’m a Drop Dead Diva junkie. I think I’m on season 4 and may have begun watching on Netflix in May. Judge me if you like, but I like this dramedy that mixes the quirkiness of Friends with the “reality” of ER…if ER were a show about the judicial system. I also had a chance to watch 12 Years a Slave for the first time. While it started off a bit ehhh and I constantly wondered where Lupita Nyong’o was during the first part of the movie, I was definitely sold and emotionally involved by the end of the movie.  While the movie provoked emotions similar to those often felt virtually reliving slavery, it also opened eyes to not only the twisted nature of the struggle, but the mental and emotional journey one endures after experiencing slavery post life as a free man and then back to freedom. I could only imagine the post-traumatic stress to follow.


  • Snack. 1) Yogurt and fresh fruit, frozen, and then thawed. DELICIOUS! Snack. 2) Popcorn with hot sauce and sugar. Don’t knock it until you try it.IMG_2235
  • Smoothies. I’ve replaced my green juices with green smoothies. Fruit: Some combination of 2 or more of the following includes raspberries, pineapple, blueberries, oranges. Greens: Kale or spinach.
  • Chocolate. 1) Fiber One 90 calorie brownies. 2) Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate
  • Dranky Drank. 1) Iced Americano with cream, sugar in the raw, and Equal. 2) Iced coffee with french vanilla cream and Stevia in the Raw. BTW..did yoy know that an Americano is very low in calories; only 25 calories in a Venti.


  1. Dude. I JUST this week discovered the deliciousness that is the iced Americano. Caffination will never be the same!!!
